Expository Reading and Writing Curriculum

ERWC: Expository Reading and Writing Curriculum.

EXPOSITORY READING AND WRITING CURRICULUM

The ERWC (Expository Reading and Writing Course) is a college preparatory, rhetoric-based English language arts course for grade 12 designed to develop academic literacy (advanced proficiency in rhetorical and analytical reading, writing, and thinking).

The University of California has approved the ERWC for area "b" credit (from the "a-g" requirements), and the Course meets college preparatory requirements for both the UC and CSU. The CSU ERWC is designed for a grade 12 English language arts course. There is also curriculum for grades 7-11.

Professional Learning

High School English language arts teachers may register for CPP sponsored workshops to become an ERWC-certified instructor.

COVID-19 IMPACT: Throughout the 2021-22 academic year, the CSU ERWC professional learning will be offered virtual.

ERWC 3.0 New to ERWC Session

The 3rd edition of the CSU ERWC is a college preparatory, rhetoric-based English language arts course for grade 12 and grade 11. Both courses (Grade 12 and Grade 11) have been approved by the University of California under area "b" (from the "a-g" requirements). The four-week professional learning workshop series is spread over a three-month period and includes course materials. The New to ERWC Session is intended for teaches who have never been certified to teach the CSU ERWC curriculum. In order to be certified, synchronous and asynchronous participation are required.

CPP will offer the following fall 2021 virtual Introductory ERWC Session.

ERWC 3.0 Update Sessions

The third edition of the Expository Reading and Writing Curriculum (ERWC 3.0) phase I launched in June 2019. This two-day, 12-hour workshop series provides a preview of the new edition exclusively for teachers who have been previously certified in the CSU ERWC at the high school level. (Certified teachers have attended 24 hours (4-days) of ERWC professional learning.) This professional learning is intended to be an active experience providing hands-on practice with the revised ERWC curriculum at grade 12. Teachers will explore the revised course design, including updated key concepts, and selected modules.

Please check back in October for our remaining 2021-22 Professional Learning schedule.
